Be in for a surprise as this coming April's Fool will probably go down in history as the biggest cyber terrorism after the...er...ever! A worm called Conficker surfaced a couple of months ago in October last year, since then affecting more than 12 million PCs world wide. Like other worms, it is able to multiply itself congesting network traffic and er... do other bad stuffs >___>

Whats special about the Conficker is that, it is hard coded with an algorithm that will trigger itself on the 1st of April 2009. During the trigger, it will automatically link to 50000 sites and from there, the mastermind could probably control all the zombified PCs by just using a single site. Not quite sure how that works, but thats just a theory, since researchers are still unable to figure out what will actually happen during the trigger; probably a big April's Fool joke, congest the entire Internet or blow up your PC just like in Die Hard 4.0 xD

The worm is able to be removed using commercial anti-virus software; e.g. Norton, AVG etc. But since then, more sophisticated versions had begun surfacing making them harder to trace and remove. They're also capable of turning off security updates and block communications with web service provided by security companies. Another thing they could do is reset system restore points and create holes in firewalls allowing the creator to hack into the infected PC or steal or send valuable information to its HQ. The latest version of the worm is called Conficker C.

As dangerous as it sounds, it only affects Windows OS based PCs, so PCs running Apple and Linux OS need not worry. Moreover, Microsoft had placed a $250k bounty on the creator's head. .____.

Its also advisable not to surf on April's Fool, but...i might take chances =p
So make sure you switch on your anti-viruses and burn your walls, coz you might be in for a treat-or-treat @___@
